Too often, we try to squeeze our expertise into someone else's course template. Six modules because that's what everyone does. Pre-recorded videos because that's what the 'experts' recommend. Worksheets because, well, aren't we supposed to have worksheets?
But what if we took a different approach? What if we designed our courses around what feels natural to us. What lights us up. What makes us excited to show up and teach.
The signs often creep in slowly. You might notice the Sunday night dread before workshops isn't about presentation anxiety anymore - it's about the energy required to create fresh material. You find yourself unable to reuse perfectly good resources because "it doesn't feel fresh enough." Your creative well, usually bottomless, starts feeling suspiciously shallow. This is where depth debt becomes real….
Transitioning from expert to teacher could be the greatest conceptual block to scaling your business, rather than, as conventional "wisdom" might have you believe, is doubt in your own expertise within your specialty. The Venture Continues …
The first time I watched My Octopus Teacher, my heart raced. Not just from the stunning cinematography of the kelp forest undulating in the surge, but from a deep recognition of what it means to stand at the edge of something both terrifying and magnificent. You know that feeling? When your body knows what you need before your mind catches up? Every time I guide someone through discovering their path to scale, I see that same edge of hesitation. That catch of breath that comes right before diving into something that could change everything. What I've discovered is that scaling isn't about following someone else's blueprint for visibility. It's about honouring your natural way of connecting and then finding the format that amplifies that connection without draining you. Sometimes the most brilliant course creators are the ones who once felt most challenged by traditional approaches to being seen.
Transformation doesn't happen through grand gestures, but in those small, almost imperceptible moments where you choose yourself. Where you dare to see the world differently, paint outside the lines, and create a business that is authentically, unapologetically you.

Starting your course is like facing that first appearance of the monolith: you sense it’s important, but you're unsure what it means for you. The path forward can feel unclear, and the pressure to choose the “right” course idea can freeze you in place. Do you create a self-paced course? A membership? A workshop? How do you even decide?
Whether you’re using a script, a teleprompter, or speaking off the cuff, the way you communicate your message can make or break the connection with your audience.
Evolving your business doesn’t mean you have to teach others to replicate your skills. Instead, it’s about finding new ways to showcase your unique expertise and attract the clients and projects that resonate with you.

If you’re wondering why some people quickly click away from your videos or podcast episodes, never to return, the problem probably isn’t the content, but it could be your voice!
It takes time to find your voice, the right words, and a confident visibility strategy required to attract clients. There’s a movement swelling that can help us step into what it takes to do it well and authentically.
One of the greatest challenges when it comes to marketing your business as a solopreneur isn’t always about WHAT to say … but finding the time to say it!
If you think about it, we’re always learning, so the curve never actually stops …. yet we never end up back exactly where we were before - we grow. There’s always some expansion.
Have you noticed that the more meaningful the task or the project, the more that feeling of being stuck surfaces? When it comes to defining and embodying your messaging though, there are other ways resistance can show up.
Are you caught in a constant tug-of-war between embracing your authentic self and holding back from fully showing up in your business because of the fear of how others might perceive you?
It seems that to genuinely thrive, it’s not enough to follow a formula. As nature would have it, HSPs seem destined to find their own aligned path … do the creative searching and the inner work to carve a path that fits their unique purpose and talents, and energy. It’s not easy … but when it feels like a calling, what choice is there but to honour who you are and design a way to do business that is a perfect personal fit?
